The Horn of Plenty, Stepney

Please note that due to Copyright Trolls, all images have been removed until I can manually review them, one by one, and ensure credit is appropriately displayed. So if the story suddenly makes no sense, then...well...soz.

This is a long process, so please bear with me...it will likely take until the end of 2024 until all images are reviewed and displayed correctly. Sigh.

Please note that this review is from January 19, 2020 and may be out of date...restaurants sometimes get better, get worse, employ a new chef or end up with new management.

I like to live life on the random side at times, and the random number generator chooses many of our roast dinner locations, from my to-do list. This time it picked about the closest place to where I went last weekend – and this choice was The Horn of Plenty in Stepney.

For the third time in 8 days I was making a mission to the same patch of East London, all the way from boring Harrow – and I was particularly amused by the random number generator sending us here.

The Horn of Plenty looked like my kind of pub – a great beer selection, a great mirror selection and even more important, a great selection of maps on the wall – the kind of place I’d love to have a few beers in. Alas, I’m doing Dry 2/3rds January.

So I used the online booking system to book a table – and there was even an automated reminder to confirm my booking two days before. I was notably hungry and craving yet more apple juice.

All was going smoothly until my tube train was terminated at Moorgate. Not the end of the world – just a 10 minute wait until the next Hammersmith & City line train.

And then I got a message from my sister, “Do I have the right pub lol?”.

TURN YOUR FUCKING BOOKING SYSTEM OFF IF YOU ARE GOING TO CLOSE FOR REFURBISHMENT.

AND MAYBE UPDATE YOUR FUCKING GOOGLE ACCOUNT SO PEOPLE WHO ARE TRAVELLING ALL THE WAY FROM THE ARSE END OF LONDON KNOW YOU ARE CLOSED FOR REFURBISHMENT.

Well that wasn’t plenty

I should probably take them off my to-do list yet I want to go there even more than I did now – this is almost the roast dinner equivalent of negging.

To be continued…

Loved: The fact that I went all the way to East London and they were closed.

Loathed: They take bookings when they are closed for refurbishment. And don't update Google.
