Ember Yard, Soho
Published: 26 August 2026
It was time to upset the traditionalists and get a chorizo on a roast dinner. Asada domingo? Si, at Ember Yard in Soho.
What do you dream about most?

I mean, dream about most in terms of roast dinners?
Apart from the obvious, like actually getting crispy roast potatoes every week. Any week.
Perhaps you want gammon roasts back. No sniggering about the Question Time audience.
Perhaps you think sausages should go on a roast dinner. I do.
Perhaps courgette should be more in vogue?
Or fish. Fish roast dinners. Why not? I’m sooooo getting cancelled by saying this.
Hola senorita, mi llama es Lord Gravy y estoy un person famousa en Londres
You know what my dream is. Roast dinner tapas. Welcome to a review of Ember Yard.
Roast dinner tapas served by hot Spanish women. I’ll keep dreaming.

So just to clarify, that image isn’t Ember Yard. Service wasn’t on roller skates, and nobody was wearing a bikini, at least not those serving us.
Service was a little slow and not very around – which was a surprise seeing as we were the only customers in there.
Only customers.
Were they even doing asada domingo? Is it even a roast dinner? Was I going to have to box it up and go down the road for a shit roast at a Greene King pub?
Estoy conocida por escribiendo un blog cerca asada domingo, si si, la mejor blog cera asasa domingo en Londres. En serio.
En serio. Why was it so quiet? Google reviews are good. It’s in the middle of Soho. But then again so is one of the best roast dinners I’ve ever reviewed, Sussex Bar & Restaurant – and they are never full when I walk past.
Maybe they need to rename Asado Domingo. Nobody educated in British schools has a clue what “domingo” means, let alone “asado”. Roast Dinner Tapas? Roast Dinner With A Spanish Twist?
Roast Dinner With Spanish Lingerie Models And Chorizo?

I’ve broken Google AI. Do you know how many times in the past I’ve asked Gemini to make pictures of Spanish women in lingerie, and been refused?
Yeah, still the roller-skates. Thought it would make the blog more family-friendly. Asado domingo? Si?

So, on the menu was…todo (it means everything en Español, not to-do). Beef, chicken, chorizo, meatballs, seasonal greens, salad, pan con tomate (maybe this Spanish-named dish confuses people?), tomato salad, red wine gravy and alioli and bravas sauce.
Ketchup on a roast dinner? Fuck off back to primary school. Bravas sauce? Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.
Hay muchas personas visiten mi blog. Un vez dia sera rica. Y sexy.

£6.50 for a CAN of session IPA. España this was not. Effectively £11.18 a pint. OK, I might have found a reason the place was so empty, and some of the glasses of wine were punchy, my Malbec (don’t worry, I’ve not forgiven Brexit yet so certainly still boycotting anything to do with Agenfifa, it was French Malbec) was damn hearty and enjoyable, but still £13.50 for a 175ml glass. Ouch.
Then again, £35.00 for a roast din an asado domingo is never going to threaten my list of affordable roast dinners in London. That said, it came with pan con tomate.

Have you ever tried making pan con tomate with crappy English supermarket tomatoes? I have and it looked nothing like this heaped version of grated tomato, the toast was cold by time it arrived, but fine, toast does go cold quickly – it had a good crunch and was decent quality of bread, with hints of garlic and some chives on top. Bueno.
Then the salad came over.

Was this part of the asado domingo? Were these our only vegetables?
We sat and waited.
And waited some more.
Que Es La Palabra Para ‘Phew’ En Español?
I started to think that the plates were going to come two by two. Like roast dinner tapas style. Which sounds great, until you remember that you need a featured image for a ROAST DINNER BLOG.

Phew – after 20-30 minutes two serving platters arrived for the three of us – more food than we needed, and we didn’t need 20 roast potatoes each either. OK, they aren’t roast potatoes but lets pretend.
Starting with the wilted, braised cabbage which was soft and silky.
The chunk of hispi cabbage was partly nice, in the way that hispi seems to become so juicy. Though towards the stalk it was crunchier and somewhat on the bitter side.
There was a little tenderstem broccoli too, charred and softened, nicely seasoned too – as was the whole roast in general.

So they were deep fried potatoes like you get for potatoes bravas – they are not traditional roast potatoes.
That said they had crispy edges and were soft enough inside – if deep fried soft rather than par boiled and oven roasted soft. Also a tad on the salty side.
No Yorkshire pudding. I mean…have you ever had a Yorkshire pudding in Spain?
Si Tu Eres Una Mujer Español, No Mas Vieja Y No Mas Joven, Con Cabello Oscuro Y Largo, Y Un Vestido Flamenco, Y Quieres Un Marido, Envies Un E-mail A Lord Gravy
Onto the plethora of meat.

So the chicken was superb – a baby chicken yet plump and you could tell it was a quality cut. It had a smokey flavour, yet was full of juices, peppered too.
A bit of research later, it apparently had been cooked in a Josper cooker, which cook at a higher temperature than normal (up to 500’C according to AI, approximately the temperature in July in Sevilla) – so Ember Yard are clearly serious about their chicken.
Damn I need a Josper oven.

The sirloin was super tender and really soft, melt in your mouth (though not Japanese Wagyu standards…nothing will ever be so).
Also the pork meatballs were loco levels of juiciness. Fresh off the grill – have I ever had better meatballs?
The chorizo was top notch too, chistora-style (or txistorra from the Basque region) which is thinner than normal chorizo and I think is mostly from the Basque region, though I stand to be corrected by any really attractive Spanish women. You could taste the paprika, and it was just melt in your mouth. Otra vez.
Finally, the gravy – for if it weren’t gravy, Ember Yard would just be on my normal Monday to Saturday to-do list. It was a red wine gravy, quite thick and by time the chorizo, etc had been immersed in it, it had a slight spiciness and peppery vibe going on.
Asado Domingo at Ember Yard
So I still don’t understand why Ember Yard had no other customers than us on Sunday afternoon, albeit later in the afternoon.
Asado domingo was mostly excellent. You could say that we were mauled by the tapas.
No Manchester United fans were hurt in the writing of this blog. But…a ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Anyway, enough of my trip to Hull. Except to tell you that my father used a washing machine for the very first time in his life. Yeah, Mother Gravy is still poorly.
Igual. All the meat was exceptional at Ember Yard. Even the beef. I even really enjoyed non-Japanese beef. Cannot say I rated either of the cabbage forms, but you don’t go to Spain for vegetables, do you?
Our American accomplice wants to go for a Spanish-style roast dinner every Sunday, now she knows they are a thing – and scored it a 8.70 out of 10. They are only a thing at Ember Yard, alas.
The regular accomplice scored it an 8.50, and I’m going 8.40 out of 10.
Next Sunday is going to be the most expensive roast dinner of 2026, so far. And definitely some small gravy boat action.

Was it really a roast dinner though?
